The route

The plan favors trains within Spain, one easy flight to Portugal, and no rental car.

1

Barcelona

April 2–5 · 3 nights

Focus: Sagrada Família, the Gothic Quarter, Gaudí architecture, the waterfront and an evening of tapas.

Light plan: Reserve Sagrada Família for late afternoon—ideally around 4:30–5:30 PM—to see warm western sunlight illuminate the red and orange Passion-side glass. The effect is weather-dependent.

Next: High-speed train to Madrid.

2

Madrid + Toledo

April 5–8 · 3 nights · Toledo by train

Madrid: Prado or Royal Palace, Retiro, central neighborhoods and an evening food crawl.

Toledo: Day trip rather than another hotel change.

3

Córdoba

April 8–9 · 1 night · compact stop

Focus: Mezquita-Cathedral, Jewish Quarter, Roman Bridge and the flower-filled historic center.

Plan: Arrive by late morning, sightsee through the following morning, then continue to Granada.

4

Granada

April 9–12 · 3 nights · two real sightseeing days

Day one: Alhambra, Nasrid Palaces and Generalife.

Day two: Albaicín, Sacromonte, cathedral area, viewpoints, tapas and flamenco.

5

Seville

April 12–15 · 3 nights

Focus: Real Alcázar, cathedral and Giralda, Santa Cruz, Plaza de España, Triana and Feria atmosphere.

Next: Nonstop flight to Lisbon on April 15.

6

Lisbon

April 15–18 · 3 nights · final stop

Focus: Alfama, Baixa, Belém, viewpoints, tiled streets and an evening of fado.

Choice: Use one day for Sintra, or keep both complete days in Lisbon for a less rushed ending.

Decisions made

The trip is intentionally rich but not overloaded with extra bases.

What stays out

  • No Tangier day trip: too much ferry and ground travel for a brief visit.
  • No Gibraltar day trip: possible, but not worth surrendering a complete Seville day.
  • No rental car: the route is better by train, and the Seville–Lisbon international drop is unnecessary.
  • No additional city: Málaga, Ronda, Cádiz and the Algarve can wait for another trip.

Book in this order

  1. Sagrada Família timed entry for a late-afternoon stained-glass visit.
  2. Alhambra timed entry, including the Nasrid Palaces.
  3. Seville Alcázar timed entry.
  4. Seville–Lisbon flight for April 15.
  5. Spanish rail tickets once the schedule opens.
  6. Sintra decision before its timed palace tickets sell.
